Effects of Olive Leaf Extract on Retinal Histological Structure and Antioxidant Capacity in Lead Poisoned Mice

Abstract:Objective  To investigate the effects of olive leaf extract (OLE) on retinal histological structure and antioxidant capacity of myocardium in lead poisoned mice. Methods  The health mice were daily intragastricly administrated with lead acetate and different doses of OLE for 30 days. The structure of retina was observed and the levels of lead, SOD, GSH-PX, CAT and MDA in retina were detected. Results  Compared with model group, the total thickness, cell number, the levels of SOD, GSH-PX and CAT of retinal ENL and INL of OLE treated mice were increased, while the levels of retinal lead and MDA were reduced. Conclusion  OLE has significant effects on retinal histological structure and antioxidant capacity to protect lead toxicity in retina.
