Distribution and Morphology of Argyrophil Cell in Digestive Tract of Erinaceus europaeus

Abstract:Tissues sections of Erinaceus europaeus stained by Long Guikais silver staining method were observed. The results showed that the argyrophil cells distributed along cardia to end of the digestive tract. The cells were denser in ventriculus, duodenum and the last part of intestinum tenue, while they were thinner in the middle part of inestinum tenue and the ending part of intestinum rectunm. The cells distributed in intestinal villus and intestinal gland of tunica mucosa, and the midst of them, the cells were denser in intestinal gland. In addition, there was a much denser narrow area in pylorus. Argyrophil cells appeared in the shape of pyramid, melon seed, oval, long shuttle, or round and so on. The pyramid, melon seed and long shuttle shaped cell had clear long risings. Argyrophil granule filled the whole cell or gather in the rising or the basal part. Outside the cell, argyrophil granule could easily be seen in place nearby the tip of pyramid and melon seed shaped cells.
