Abstract:The paper deals with a cytological study of blood of Bufo gargarizans in China. The blood cells in vivo and in blood smears stained by Wright staining method were observed morphologically and counted. The results show that there are two types of erythrocytes, i.e. most of them with nucleus and few without nucleus. The erythrocyte with nucleus is bigger, oval with an average diameter of 19.41×14.25μm and dense chromatin in nucleus. The leucocyte is round or oval with diameter smaller than the major axis of erythtocyte. The proportion of nucleus in leucocyte is bigger than that in erythrocyte. The average number of erythrocyte is 7.67×105/μl (mm3) and that of leucocyte 0.75×105/μl (mm3). The thrombocyte is oval or spindle in shape and has little cytoplasm or takes a naked nucleus look.
