Study on the Urogenital System of Paramesotriton fuzhongensis and Paramesotriton guangxiensis

Abstract:In the paper, the morphology of the urogenital systems of Paramesotriton fuzhongensis and Paramesotriton guangxiensis were observed and compared using anatomical technique. The results showed that the urogenital system of P. fuzhongensis was similar to that of P. guangxiensis though their gonads were not identical in neither color nor shape. Their kidneys are opisthonephros. That in the male is composed of epididymal kidney and opisthonephric kidney. It was remarkable that many collecting tubules from the opisthonephric kidney in the male did not open into the opisthonephric duct, instead of which converged and formed the accessary urinary duct that opened to the cloaca. The accessary urinary duct was exclusively for urinary fuction and the opisthonephric duct was mainly for genital fuction in the male. The results indicated that there was a trend of the functional separation of the urogenital ductswhich was more developed in amphibian.
