Abstract:Forest musk deer, currently listed as Accessory I in CITES and classified in China’s list of protected species, is the most of China’s musk deers in numbers. Because of the high pressure of illegal hunting year-by-year and international smuggling of high price, the wild population in Chinahas nearly been destroyed. This paper gives the review on research inChinaabout forest musk deer population from classification, geographical distribution, system decomposition, population ecology and cultivation, based on the literature and author’s research, and puts forward the research direction for future.
