Effects of Castor Bean Extract on Antifertility in Mice

Abstract:Antifertility experiments have been made on mice for short-term and long-term observation with castor bean extract and ricin, and which showed apparent effects of antifertility. Ricin and the mixture of ricin and castor bean extract respectively showed 100% antiearly pregnancy, while castor bean extract showed 100% anti-implantation. In the field of long-term antifertility, castor bean extract is of good effect which decreased mice’s production and generations within 210 d (mice’s normal gestation period is 2123d). Besides, significant effects are found in mice’s isolated uterus with castor bean extract and ricin, which decreased the probability of nidation in the way of strengthening the contraction in uterus. In the experiment of fetation interception, no nidation site was found after the administration of ricin and the mixture of ricin and castor bean extract.
