Effect of Temperature on Food Assimilation of Tardigrade Milnesium tardigradum Doyère (Tardigrada, Milnesiidae)

Abstract:In order to understand the effect of temperature on food assimilation of the tardigrade Milnesium tardigradum, the tardigrades were fed with rotifer and were acclimated respectively to 5 and 20 for 10 days. The experiment was also carried out respectively at 5 or 20. The ANOVA and t-test results indicated that the appetite of individuals raised under 20 was higher than individual raised under 5 by 0.84 rotifer day-1, the food assimilation rate of individuals raised under 20 was faster than individuals raised under 5 by 24 hours. That is, the appetite and food assimilation rate increased with the increase of acclimation temperatures.
