Abstract:Vocalizations of the boreal owl (Aegolius funereus beickianus) in Lianhuashan Nature Reserve were recorded and analyzed in breeding season of 2004. Six calls were identified, including primary call, Moo-A call and Skiew call of males; weak call of females; chirp and chatter calls of nestlings. The characteristics of each call were summarized. There are differences between some primary calls from different recording sites, but the calls of the same individual also show some varances. Compare to A. f. funereus and A. f. richardsoni in other regions, the primary call of A. f. beickianus has shorter, fewer notes and higher frequency, however, no essential differences.
