Report on Monopterus albus from Hainan Infected with Pallisentis (Neosentis)

Abstract:The paper reports first the infection of Pallisentis (Neosentis) celatus and Eustrongylides sp. (larva) in Monopterus albus from Hainan Province on July 2004. The result showed that the infection rate of acanthocephalan was 46.7% with mean intensity of 3.80 and mean abundance of 1.78 while the infection rate of nematode (larva) was 24.3% with mean intensity of 2.15 and mean abundance of 0.52. The infection was positively correlated with the body length of the Monopterus albus i. e. the lowest prevalence (20%) by acanthocephalan, but no prevalence by nematode occurred in those with body length below 190mm and the highest prevalence in those with body length ranging 191-220 mm, and the infection rates reached 26.0% of acanthocephalan and 34.6% of nematode in those with body length of 210-220 mm. The frequency distribution of the acanthocephalan and the nematode was over-dispersed with parameter of negative binomial distribution of 0.2539 and 0.2176 respectively.
