The Structural Features of Web of Leucauge blanda and Araneus ventricosus Related to the Body Weights of the Two Spiders

Abstract:Thestructural features of webs from different sized spiders of Leucauge blanda and Araneus ventricosus in the field conditions were examined.Results indicated that the capture thread length, capture spiral space, capture area and the number of the web radius were positively related to the weight of L. blanda under 35.1 mg. The ratio of capture thread length of upper to lower was negatively related the weight of L. blanda over 35.1 mg. The capture thread length, the capture spiral space and the capture area were positively related to the body weight of A. ventricosus under 144.9 mg. The numbers of the web radius were also positively related to the body weight of the spider under 103.8 mg. But there was no relationship between capture spiral space and spider weight. The ratio of capture thread length of upper to lower was negatively related the mass of A. ventricosus over 85.4 mg.The relationships between the features of web structure and the body weight of the spiders were the prey strategies under different habitat in different stages of growth.
