Abstract:The breeding biology of the blue-eared pheasant(Crossoptilon auritum) was studied in Gahai-zecha Nature Reserve, Gansu province from 2007 to 2008. Concealment degrees of 12 nests were surveyed. Degree of hinder concealment was the highest (90.83%), followed by upper concealment, left concealment, right concealment, and front concealment. The average clutch size of this pheasant was (9.67±1.15) (n=3). The average egg size, egg volume, egg size weight were (56.64±1.75) mm × (41.88±0.98) mm, (50.39±2.64) cm3, (54.97±2.87) g, respectively. Of four breeding nests, only one nest hatched successfully. Man-made interference and natural enemies resulted in low nidation success.
