Abstract:
From January to February, 2010, the populations and distribution of the western black crested gibbons (Nomascus concolor jingdongensis) living in Wuliang Shan National Nature Reserve were surveyed for a second time by interview and fieldwork. The results showed that 87 groups of gibbons lived in Wuliang Shan. More groups were distributed along the east slope than the west slope, the south section was more than the north section. Fifteen groups lived outside of Wuliang Shan Nature Reserve. An altitude of 1900~2800 m and longitude 100o30′~100o50′, as well as latitude 24o17′~24o45′ were the ranges of the groups’ distributions. The distribution density of gibbon groups was 0.24/100 hm2 in Wuliang Shan Nature Reserve. The number of gibbon groups has decreased in the last ten years.
