Expression of PPARα mRNA and Protein in Hippocampi Following Global Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion in Rats

Abstract:Objective To explore the changes of PPARα mRNA and protein expression in cerebral hippocampi of global cerebral ischemia reperfusion(I/R) rats. Methods The model of globalcerebral ischemia reperfusion was established by bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion and vena cervicalis blood retransfusion. RT-PCR was performed to detect expression of PPARα mRNA. Western Blot was used to detect PPARα protein expression. Results The expression of PPARα mRNAin hippocampiincreased at 30 min after global cerebral I/R, peaking at 24 h, and was still slightly higher than normal levels on the 30th day after I/R. The changes of PPARα protein expression were similar with that of PPARα mRNA expression. Conclusion Global cerebral I/R can induce an increase of expression of PPARα mRNA and protein in rat hippocampi within 30 days after insult.
