Abstract:Seven physiological and 33 biochemical indices of Gorsachius magnificus were determined by automatic biochemical and blood cell analysis. The results showed that large erythrocytes were found in the avian Gorsachius magnificus, MCV were similar to that of the vulture Gyps africanus. G. magnificus had higher MCV and MCH, lower RBC, HCT and HGB, and higher urea concentration than those of other reported birds i.e. E. garzetta, A. bacchus, N. nycticorax, M.leucocephala, and A. chukar. The physiological indices of erythrocytes indicated that the blood of G. magnificus had a low oxygen-carrying capability. The differences between Gorsachius magnificus and other avian species in blood biochemical indices could be attributed to them being different species.
