Abstract:A study on the breeding biology of Aix galericulata was conducted from 2007 to 2008 in Mudanfeng Nature Reserve, Heilongjiang Province. The results showed that Aix galericulata belonged to the summer migrants in the study area, migrating into this area in late April and leaving in late September. The residence period was about five months. During the breeding period, their mating system was monogamous, and generally females were responsible for building nests, which were completed in 78 days. Adults started laying eggs 56 days after nesting. The clutch size was 510 eggs, the mean clutch size was 7.5. The mean egg weight was 34.2g. Females began to incubate immediately after laying the last egg. Incubation lasted 2830 days. The hatching rate was 90%.
