Abstract:The yearly development of the gonad and the structural characteristics of the reproductive system of Onchidium struma Cuvierwere studied by observing the seasonal changes of gonadal and histological sections. The results showed that the reproductive system of this species consisted of three parts: the digenetic gland, the reproductive ducts and subsidiary glands of the male, and the reproductive ducts and subsidiary glands of female. The reproductive duct of the male consisted of the vas deferens, epiphallus, and stimulatory organ, and the prostate gland was the main subsidiary gland. The reproductive duct of the female consisted of the oviduct, receptaculum seminis, and vagina, and the main subsidiary glands were the viteline gland and albumen gland. The characteristics of the reproductive cycle in this specieswas the same as that of other typical Gastropoda animals. The development cycle of the gonadwhich lasted a year, could be divided into 5 stages: resting stage, proliferating stage, growing stage, maturing stage, and spawning stage. The period of maturing and spawning lasted from early June to early September, and the progenitive peak was from early July to early August. The resting stage started in October. The sperm-egg delivery, fertilization and the function of the copulatory organ and subsidiary glands of O. struma Cuvier were also discussed in this paper.
