In this study, six domesticated cheetahs from the Shanghai Wild Animal Park were given artificial stimuli to gradually restore their rapid short-distance running. Behavior, physiological and biochemical indices and semen from the six cheetahs were compared with 6 raised cheetahs in captive and semi-free-range hunting areas. The results show that training can gradually restore cheetah predation, mating and other wild behaviors and the hemoglobin content and other cheetah physiological and biochemical indices and semen quality of the trained cheetahs differed significantly with the captive and semi-free-range hunting cheetahs. The results of the present study are significant for the protection and display of cheetahs.
