A New Species of the Genus Schizothorax from Sichuan, China (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae)

Abstract:This study presents a new species of the genus Schizothorax, collected from Sichuan Province, China.
Schizothorax gulinensis sp. nov. (Plate Ⅰ:1, 3, 5, 7:b, c)
Holotype:No. SC2016003, collected on May 9, 2016. Female, total length 242 mm, body length 204 mm, collected from a stream of the Baisha River (Chishui River).
Allotype:No. SC2018002, collected on June 2, 2018. Male, total length 248 mm, body length 206 mm, collected from the locality as the holotype.
Paratypes:No. SC2018001-48, collected on June 2, 2018. Total length 213-262 mm, body length 208-257 mm, collected from the locality as the holotype.
Most of the specimens are kept in Sichuan Provincial Academy of Natural Resource Sciences. SC2018023-27 are kept in the Nature History Museum of Sichuan University, and SC2018030-34 are kept in the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Dorsal fin:iii-6-7 (98.4%), anal fin:iii-5, pectoral fin:i-15-19, ventral fin:i-8-9. Lateral line scales:94-103. The number of scales from lateral line to the origin of dorsal fin is 25-29, and that from lateral line to the origin of pelvic fin is 19-24. Gill rakers outside the 1st arch 8-14, while the inside 13-17. Pharyngeal teeth in 3 rows, 2.3.5-5.3.2 or 1.3.5-5.3.2 or 2.3.4-5.3.2. Vertebra 4+41-42+1 (n=15).
Body length is 4.6-5.4 (4.9) times longer than body height, 4.6-5.2 (4.9) times longer than head length, 6.1-9.1 (6.1) times longer than the length of caudal peduncle, and 8.5-11.9 (10.4) times longer than the depth of caudal peduncle. Head length is 2.4-2.9 (2.7) times longer than snout length, 4.7-5.7 (4.5) times longer than eye diameter, 2.6-2.9 (2.9) times longer than interorbital width, 5.4-7.0 (6.5) times longer than the length of maxillary barbel, and 4.2-5.1 (5.1) times longer than the length of rostral barbel. Length of caudal peduncle is 1.2-2.2 (1.6) times longer than its height.
Diagnosis:new species resembles S. grahami, but there are some morphological differences between them.
