Predictive Analysis of Nest Site Selection of Oriental Stork in the Yellow River Delta

Abstract:The nest site selection is of great significance to the survival and reproduction of wild birds. Oriental stork (Ciconia boyciana) is a kind of large endangered wading birds, and studying their nest site selection can help protect the population. From March to June 2019, the distribution of C. boyciana in the Yellow River Delta and the land use data were collected. By using binomial logistic regression and inverse distance weighting methods, the spatial distribution and the suitability of the habitat were analyzed. The results showed that, C. boyciana prefers the positions which are close to paddy fields, inland tidal flats, ponds, high-voltage towers and far from squares and commercial service lands. The nest sites of C. boyciana were centered on the most suitable habitat, and 75.44% of them located in the most suitable habitat covering 18.36% of the entire study area. It is suggested that we should put on special measures on the wetland restoration and habitat protection in the most and more suitable areas.
