Abstract:The investigating and monitoring data of the biological resources are the base of nature reserve management. To promote the wildlife conservation and strengthen the nature reserve management, two surveys of herpetological resources were carried out in Hunan Yangmingshan National Nature Reserve in August and December, 2002. Combined with the results made of the authors in 1989 and 1993, a total of 62 herpetological species were recorded in the nature reserve. There were 23 and 39 species belonging to Amphibia and Reptilia, respectively. In line with the herpetofauna, the zoogeological division of the nature reserve was divided into the Eastern hill and campagna sub-distract, Central China distract, Oriental realm, and 54 herpetological Oriental species constituted the main part. The current situation of herpetological resources and their distributions are discussed. The holotype and allotype specimens of Rana hanluica sp. nov., 2007 are collected from the nature reserve. At last, some conservation suggestions are provided in order to promote the management of the nature reserve.
