Amino Acid Composition of Captive Giant Panda Milk

Abstract:The aim of present research is to investigate the amino acid composition of giant panda colostrum. Amino acid composition of 20 milk samples collected in different lactation periods was analyzed with high performance liquid chromatography using giant panda milk hydrolyzed by 6 mol/L HCl. The result showed that glutamate content was the highest in giant panda colostrum with average level of approximately 5.2 g/L, while in mature milk and mammary gland secretion in the dry period, proline content was the highest. No significant difference was observed in total amino acid concentration during day 2 to day 10 of lactation, with average level of about 34 g/L. Amino acid contents in the dry period exhibited significant alteration.
