Abstract:Four specimens (HGX2020022-HGX2020025) of amphibians were collected from Hejiagou, Shuiwei Town (105.583 382°E, 28.288 271°N, 660 m) in the Huagaoxi National Nature Reserve (Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, China) in April 2020. Genomic DNAs were extracted and 2 kinds of mitochondrial
16S rDNA sequences were obtained, followed by phylogenetic relationship and external morphology analyses. Both morphological comparison and molecular data consistently indicated that these toads were
Leptobrachella bijie, which should be a new record of Sichuan Province. Currently, there are 28 species of the genus
Leptobrachella Smith, 1925 in China, including 20 species that are described in recent 10 years, and only
L. oshanensis is thought to be encountered in Sichuan Province. The identification of
L. bijie in Luzhou City suggests that the diversity of
Leptobrachella is underestimated, and should be further studied in the future.
