Elaphe carinata (Günther, 1864) Found in Chayu County, Tibet Autonomous Region

Abstract:This study describes the specimens of king ratsnake (Elaphe carinata) which were first recorded in Tibet Autonomous Region and compares it with other geographical populations. The results show that the snake specimens found in Chayu County belong to the subspecies E. c. carinata, but have obvious individual variation characteristics. This paper is the first to report the individual variation characteristics of geographic population of the anterior lateral extension of the internasal scale is connected with the first upper labial scale and encloses the nasal scales in front and above. There were significant differences in the ventral scales number and body length between the specimens collected in Chayu County, Tibet Autonomous Region and the Deqin population of E. carinata.
