Identification and Description of an Amolops afghanus Population Distributed in Western Yunnan, and Discussion on Distribution of Amolops afghanus in China

Abstract:Fourteen specimens belonging to the genus Amolops were collected from western Yunnan, China in September 2018. The snout-vent length (SVL) of male individuals ranged from 46.4-56.5 mm (n=9), and the females ranged from 74.7-89.7 mm (n=5). Their body sizes were significantly larger than A. marmoratus. Based on mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequence, these specimens had 12.61% of average genetic distance with A. marmoratus,and 0.05% with A. afghanus. Morphometrical comparison and molecular analysis determined that these specimens should be A. afghanus, and the detailed description of A. afghanus identified in the current study was provided. In addition, the distribution of A. afghanus in China was discussed.
