Waterbirds Resources in Yellow River Wetland National Nature Reserve in Mengjin, Henan

Abstract:An investigation on the waterbirds resources was carried out in Yellow River Wetland National Nature Reserve of Mengjin reach in Henan Province from 1995 to 2008. 98 species of waterbirds were recorded, which belonged to 18 families and 8 orders. Of which, 2 species were national first-grade protected wildlife in China, and 12 species were second-grade. Among the total, 41 species were winter migrants, 32 species were summer migrants, 16 species were passage migrants and 9 species were residents. As fauna distribution, 63 species belonged to Palearctic accounting for 64.3%, 5 species to Oriental realm for 5.1%, and 30 species to widespread for 30.6%. Avifauna in the region presented mixed distribution feature of the north and south birds, dominated by the Palearctic realm.
