Status of Fish Resources in the Zhougong River, a Tributary of the Qingyi River

Abstract:Fish resources in the Zhougong River were surveyed at 18 sampling sites for 5 times from April 2015 to February 2016. A total of 4 924 individuals belonging to 34 species, 27 genera, 8 families and 3 orders were collected and identified. There were 20 genera including 24 species in Cypriniformes, 6 genera including 8 species in Siluriformes, and 1 genus including 2 species in Perciformes. The number of species in Cyprinidae was the largest, which occupied 44.12% of the total species number. Among the 34 species, Schizothorax (Racoma) davidi was one of the key protected animals in Sichuan province, and 9 were endemic to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. In addition, S. (Racoma) davidi was listed as endangered, and S. (S.) prenanti and Liobagrus marginatus were listed as vulnerable in Red List of China's Vertebrates. Most of the fish species living in the Zhougong River were found to be small-sized, and among of which, Abbottina obtusirostris and Zacco platypus were the dominant. Dam constructions on the Zhougong River might have resulted in negative impacts on fishes.
