Abstract:In order to study the protective effect of cordycepin on Drosophila melanogaster against microwave radiation, D. melanogaster were fed with different concentrations of cordycepin medium, followed by observing and counting the fertility and growth characteristics of the offspring. The results showed that the fertility of D. melanogaster decreased very significantly after microwave radiation (P<0.01). Cordycepin could improve the rate of fertility, and in addition, of cordycepin at a concentration of 0.4% very significantly enhanced the number of pupae and adult flies (P<0.01). Furthermore, microwave irradiation decreased the sex ratio and distortion rate of D. melanogaster offspring, but reduced the body length and fly rate (P<0.01). In contrast, all the 4 tested concentrations of cordycepin could not only increase the offspring sex ratio (close to 1), but also reduce the distortion rate very significantly (P<0.01). Thus, it was concluded that cordycepin was able to repair radiation damage and played an anti-microwave radiation role to the body.
