The Avian Diversity and Geographic Distribution Characteristic of Jiangxi Province

Abstract:After compacting the distribution data of bird in Jiangxi province, and combined with our investigation data performed during these years, we confirmed that there were 497 bird species, belonging to 75 families and 19 orders. The species of Passeriformes, Charadriiformes, Anseriformes and Falconiformes were more than the other orders. The residence style and geographic distribution of these birds were summarized, and we found that the ratio of resident bird and winter bird were the highest, and oriental type composed the largest proportion of the geographic distribution of bird in Jiangxi province. We checked the correlation between the number of species with annual average temperature, precipitation, area of sampling sites and the highest altitude, there was no correlation between the number of species and the four factors. We also checked the relationship between ratio of breeding birds and oriental birds with the four factors above, and the results showed that ratio of oriental birds was positively correlated with precipitation and the highest altitude (P=0.035, P=0.018), however, the ratio of breeding birds was negatively correlated with annual average temperature (P=0.018), but positively correlated with the highest altitude instead (P=0.001). The results of clustering analysis indicated that bird composition of the north part and central Poyang Lake as well as its impact plain was different with that of other parts and clustered into two main branches. Therefore, we divided Jiangxi province into six parts according to the landform, precipitation and temperature, avian species composition and administrative divisions: northeast mountain areas, northwest mountain areas, west mountain area, southwest mountain areas and plain areas around Poyang Lake. The middle part of Jiangxi was retained as middle plain and hill areas due to data shortage on the relationship between this area with other parts.
