Morphology of Digestive System and Food Analysis of Geoemyda spengleri

Abstract:The digestive tract of Geoemyda spengleri is consisted of 5 parts, such as cavum oropharyngeum, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. And the whole length of digestive tract was 3.70 times as long as that of the maximum straight carapace. The length of small intestine occupied 52.7% of the whole digestive tract. The weight of liver was about 2.80% of the body weight. On the basis of anatomical analysis on digestive tract, we found that the feeding habit of G. spengleri containing insects, larvae, and millipedes such as Gonatopus sp.,Lucilia sericata,Julus terrestris and so on. Under the conditions of artificial feeding,G. spengleri can eat small animals such as Insecta, Myriapoda, Oligochaeta, Crustacea, Arachnida, for example,Tenebrio molitor,J. terrestris,Pheretima tschiliensis,Armadillidium vulgare Latreille, Salticidae and so on.These findings provided important reference value for artificial domestication and breeding of G. spengleri.
