Investigation of Liuwei Dihuang Wan on the Treatment of Alcoholic Menopausal Syndrome in SD Rats

Abstract:To study the effect of Liuwei Dihuang Wan on the diagnosis and treatment of alcoholic menopausal syndrome (MS) in SD rats. The MS rat model was first induced by ethanol, and then the effect of Liuwei Dihuang Wan on the mental state, diet, and body weight of rats was detected. The ovarian histomorphology was tested with HE staining and checked using microscope. The levels of estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) in serum were detected. The mRNA expression levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the ovary and uterus were also monitored by qPCR. The results showed that Liuwei Dihuang Wan could improve the growth and development of ovarian follicles, and increase the level of E2 but significantly decrease the level of FSH and LH in serum (P<0.01). Furthermore, the mRNA expression levels of IL-6 gene in the ovary and uterus were significantly different (P<0.01). In conclusion, Liuwei Dihuang Wan can be used for the therapy of alcoholic MS. Meanwhile, IL-6 may be a potential target for the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune premature ovarian and MS.
