Avian Biodiversity of Qixing Islands Provincial Special Marine Reserve, Zhejiang Province

Abstract:Avian biodiversity was investigated in Qixing Islands Provincial Special Marine Reserve, Zhejiang from November 2012 to September 2013. A total of 42 species belonging to 28 genera, 17 families and 6 orders were recorded. Among of which, there were 8 residents (19.05%), 10 summer visitors (23.81%), 21 winter visitors (50.00%), and 3 passage migrants (7.14%). Analysis of avifauna showed a mixed pattern of Oriental and Palearctic, and Oriental species accounted for the major part. Besides, 3 species were class Ⅱ national protected animals; 5 species were provincial protected animals; 2 species were listed in CITES Appendix Ⅱ, and 1 species in Appendix Ⅰ; 1 endangered, 1 vulnerable and 2 near threatened species in China Species Red List; 21 species were in the list of the Sino-Japanese Conservation Migrants Agreement and 6 species in the list of the Sino-Australian Conservation Migrants Agreement. Qixing Islands locate in the west coast of the Pacific, and is one stopover used by the migratory birds, which is of great value to conserve the avian biodiversity.
