Abstract:Neopsylla hongyangensis sp. nov. Diagnosis: Neopsylla hongyangensis sp. nov. belongs to the setosa-group of genus Neopsylla Wagner, 1903, and is similar to N. bidentatiformis (Wagner, 1893). It could be distinguished from the later by: 1. In male, there is a single median ventral arm branching out from the base of the distal arm of the 9th sternite, unsegmented and devoid of bristles. The gap between the two sets of the row of spiniforms along the distal arm of the 9th sternite is longer than the length of the lowest spiniform of the upper set. The dorsal margin of the aedeagal crochet is horizontal and straight, its ventral part narrow and pointed, forming a inverted isosceles triangle in outline. Whereas in N. bidentatiformis, the dorsal margin of which is divided by a sinus into two lobes, and the ventral part is broad and round. 2. In female, the anal stylet is longer, being 3.4-3.7 times as long as the width at the base, while in N. bidentatiformis, only 2.5-3.6 times. The bursa copulatrix is also longer, as long as the length of the spermatheca, and it is shorter in N. bidentatiformis, only about 4/5 the length of the spermatheca. The chaetotaxity is also different between these two species. The new species has comparatively fewer bristles, e. g. the lateral bristles before the main row of the 7th sternite being only 11-20 in contrast of 23-28. All specimens were collected from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. From Yueliang Mountain, Haiyuan, Hongyang, off Apodemus peninsulae 3♂♂, 4♀♀ including 1♂ holotype, 1♀ allotype and paratypes, September 11, 1983. From Haiyuan Machang, off Cricetulus migratorius, 1♂, 1♀, April, 1981. From Helan Mountain Forest, off Niviventer confucianus, 1♂, April, 1981. All specimens are deposited in the Prevention Diseases Institution of Ningxia Autonomous Region and Guiyang Medical College.
