Development and Ossification Sequence of the Hind Limb during Metamorphosis of Bufo gargarizans Tadpoles

Abstract:The pelvic girdle and hind limb skeletons in different developmental stages of Bufo gargarizans tadpole were investigated using double staining method in this study. The results showed that the hind limb was chondrified and ossified from proximal to distal, but the development pattern of the autopodium presented postaxial dominance. At Gosner stage 40, both halves of the pelvis came into contact. The fusion of ilia was devoted to preparation for transformation from aquatic to terrestrial habitats for tadpole.
