Abstract:

In the present paper, descriptions are given for two new species of the genus Pheretima.

1.    Pheretima plesiopora sp. nov. (Fig.1)

The new species similar to Ph. livella.

Length 44-80 mm, diameter 2-3 mm, segments 70-116. Clitellum dark orangish, with setae on ventral side. Prostomium proepilobous.

Setae fine, darkish, numerous and closed together, their numbers: 74-93/, 96-117/, 101-127/ⅩⅢ, 104-116/ⅩⅩ, 97-123/ⅩⅩⅤ; 7-8 (), 8-9 (), 0 (ⅩⅧ) between spermathecal pores and male pores and male pores respectively, 2-3 rows setae on ventral of ⅩⅦ, and ⅩⅨ-ⅩⅫ or ⅩⅩⅥ, but one row on dorsal side of these segments.

Male pores on ventro-lateral side of ⅩⅧ, in a small and shallow copulatory chamber.

Spermathecal pores one pair, intersegmental in 5/6, about 1/15 of circumference ventrally apart.

Septa 4/5 9/10 very thick. The 1st pair of seminal vesicles enclosed in the 2nd pair of testis sacs. Spermathecal ampulla rather small, ovoid. Diverticulum rather short than main part, Zshaped twisted in the middle part, and its seminal chamber not enlarged.

Holotype and 36paratypes were collected in Chishui County, Guizhou in October 1984, and are deposited in the Institute of Biology, Guizhou Academy of Sciences, Guiyang.

2.    Pheretima longisiphona sp. nov. (Fig.2)

The new species similar to Ph. robusta.

Length 54-107 mm, diameter 2-3 mm, segments 70-126. Clitellum red-brown, without setae on ventral side.

Setae fine, their numbers: 28-37/, 34-45/, 53-57/, 40-48/ⅩⅩ, 43-51/ⅩⅩⅤ, 26-29 (), 9-11 (ⅩⅧ) between spermathecal pores and male pores respectively.

Male pores on ventro-lateral side of ⅩⅧ, each on a top of cone raised, surrounded by concentric ridges. Having 5-8 pairs of papilla on the ventral side of ⅩⅧ-ⅩⅫ or ⅩⅩⅤ.

Spermathecal pores two pairs, intersegmental 7/8 and 8/9, about 1/2 ofcircumference ventrally apart. Having 6-12 papillae on ventral side of -.

Septa 8/9 and 9/10 absent. Testis sacs communicated. Seminal vesiclesverylarge, meeting dorsally. Prostates very developed, in ⅩⅥ or ⅩⅦ-ⅩⅪ or ⅩⅩⅤ, having 10-18 long-stalked accessory glands in this region. Spermathecal ampulla long-round shape. Diverticullum rather short than main part, slightly “Z”shaped twisted in the middle part, and its seminal chamber slightly enlarged.

Holotype and 19 paratypes were collected inTaiyangMountains,Shuyang County,Guizhouin August 1984, and are deposited in theInstituteofBiology, Guizhou Academy of Sciences,Guiyang.
