Home Range of Trachemys scripta elegans in Brackish Water of Nandu River, Hainan Island, China

Abstract：The home range of 12 invasive Trachemys scripta elegans was tracked by acoustic and code radio receiving technology in the NanduRiver,Hainan Island,China, from September 2012 to November 2013. The home range and home range core of each individual (7 males and 5 females) was calculated by minimum convex polygon and home range core domain method. The home range of the turtles was 3.83 hm2±0.76 hm2, with core range of 0.47 hm2±0.21 hm2. The home range and home range core in n breeding season, especially for the male turtles, were significantly larger than those in non-breeding season. While no significant difference was observed in the female ones. In addition, the home range and home range core of the male turtles in breeding season were significantly larger than those of the females. However, no significant difference was observed between genders in non-breeding season.
