Abstract:As a classic model organism of Caenorhabditis, C. elegans has been extensively used in the fields of biology. However, it’s difficult and time-consuming to identify the accurate morphological characteristics. The current experiment isolated and cultivated the nematodes in NGM medium, and identified them by morphological, molecular, and systematic analysis as well as mating experiment. A total of 55 Caenorhabditis nematode strains including 4 species were obtained from more than 1000 samples. The GXW0001, which was collected from the humus soil below Kiwi fruit tree of Wuhan Botanical Garden in May 2010, was identified as the first record species of C. elegans in China. This research build systematic and stable approaches for the identification of model nematode and fill the blank of related genetic resource database in China.
