Abstract:The chromosome of Lacerta vivipara from Xinjiang was studied by using medulla cells colchicine-hypotonic air-drying technique. The results showed that the numbers of diploidy chromosome were 36 (2n=32+Z1Z1Z2Z2) in males with sex chromosome type Z1Z1Z2Z2, and 35 (2n=32+Z1Z2W) in females with sex chromosome type Z1Z2W. The mechanism of sex determination was depended on sex chromosomes. All the chromosomes of males and females are telocentric. Moreover, the type of karyotype characters suggests that the viviparous lizard populations of Xinjiang should be assigned in the same group with that of North-central Europe and Russia.
