Investigation of Glycosylated Hemoglobin Levels in Cynomolgus

Abstract:Objective  To investigate the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level of cynomolgus monkeys and establish the background database. Methods  Saphenous venous blood of hind legs were collected and then the HbA1cvalues of 176 cynomolgus monkeys (male, 88; female, 88) were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Results  The mean HbA1cvalue of male monkeys was significantly higher than that of female monkeys (4.80%± 0.56% vs. 4.61%±0.55%) (P<0.05). Additionally, the HbA1clevels of cynomolgus monkeys were also significantly different between ages (P<0.05). The mean HbA1cvalue of young female and male monkeys was significantly higher than the elderly group (P<0.05), however, no significant difference was observed between the midlife group and others. Conclusions  The HbA1clevel of cynomolgus monkeys was varied between different gender and age had significant differences.
