Abstract:The habit of emergence, feeding, mating and oviposition of adult Melolontha hippocastani mongolica were investigated in Kangding from 2008 to 2010. The eclosion of adult M. hippocastani mongolica was finished in the end of April with a peak between mid May and the last ten days of June. The adult M. hippocastani mongolica would mate for several times and usually last for 115.6 min±24.4 min (n=10), and the mating rhythm presented a shape of “M” with two peaks at noon and night respectively. Before oviposition, the female would make a round chamber about 10 cmunderground, which was used for laying eggs. New eggs were pale-yellow and the colour would be darkened as time went on. The average egg numbers were 33.7±7.0 per chamber (n=10).
