Ultra-structure of Reproductive System of Cyrtotrachelus buqueti Guer in Different Population Densities

Abstract:Cyrtotrachelus buqueti Guer was a destructive insect for bamboos. Leshan of Sichuan province and Chishui of Guizhou province are less than 300 km away, where C. buqueti population density and the degree of hazard is 48 times difference. The insect reproductive system played a key role in population increase. In this paper, the morphological characteristics and ultrastructure of the reproductive system of C. buqueti in Leshan and Chishui were systematically studied with morphological anatomy and scanning electron microscopy, to explore the differences of population reproductive system between Leshan and Chishui. The results showed that there was no significant difference observed in morphology of the adult reproductive system, also in ultrastructure of their external genitalia. The surface area of Chishui female yolks were rough hollow and the average diameter was significantly smaller than females of Leshan, The inner of testis was fold and rough. Sperm cell diameter was significantly smaller than males in Leshan, The number of sperm cell of per square micron meter in Chishui was more than 1.5 times than that of Leshan. The variation of the structure and size of sperm and egg cells may be the direct cause of the decrease of the population density of C. buqueti in Chishui .This results would be practical reference value for the analysis of the changes population of C. buqueti .
