A new species of Scutariella (Rhabdocoela: Scutariellidae) with Molecular phylogenetic analysis

Abstract:This study reports one new species of Scutariellidae: Scutariella sinensis sp. nov. (Ss) with morphological description and phylogenetic analysis. Diagnoses of Ss: ① Two vitelline glands of Ss are located at both sides dorsally alongside with the intestine and fused at posterior end of the intestine, which are U-shaped overall; ② The genital opening of Ss is located ventrally at the anterior end of the intestine; ③ The pharyngeal glands of Ss are massive and located at both sides between the pharynx and the intestine; ④ The testes and ovaries of Ss are situated ventrally at the anterior 1/3 intestine. This study performed the phylogenetic analysis (18S rDNA and 28S rDNA) of Scutariella sinensis sp. nov., which is the first to provide the molecular data of Scutariellidae.
