The effect of oxytocin on the social behavior of the Brandt’s voles in the medial amygdala

Abstract：Objective To explore the influence of oxytocin in the medial amygdala on the social behavior of the Brandt’s voles. Methods We inhibited the oxytocin receptor in medial amygdala and verifiedits influences on the social behavior of Brandt’s voles using social recognition experiment and neutral arena encounter experiment.Results The control voles took far more time to explored the strangers than the familiars (P &amp;amp;lt; 0.001).However,the voles injected with oxytocin receptor inhibitor in medial amygdala took the similar time to investigated the strangers and the familiars(P &amp;amp;gt; 0.05). The voles injected with oxytocin receptor inhibitor in medial amygdala showed no more attack time and incubation time of attack than the control voles (P &amp;amp;gt; 0.05). Conclusion Oxytocin in the medial amygdala can influence the social recognition and memory ability of the Brandt’s voles, but can not affect its attack behavior. Therefore, we conclude that the expression of oxytocin in the medial amygdala affect Brandt’s voles’ social behavior through impairing the ability of social memory, rather than changing their ability of prosocial.
