Scientists of the Dauria International Protected Areas conducted a series of field surveys on birds at the Kherlen River Basin from 1994 to 2014. In total, 288 bird species of 52 families and 18 orders were recorded. Among of which, Non-passeriformes were the dominant species, with 166 species belonging to 30 families, 17 orders, accounting for 57.64% of the totalspecies. The resident types were mostly summer residents (147 species) and migrants (66 species), accounting for 73.70% of the total species. The number of waterfowl and wading birds were 192, accounting for 66.43% of the total species. There were also a large number of Passeriformes and Falconiformes, such as western marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus
) and eastern marsh harrier (Circus spilonotus
) on the grassland.
